Unity Surfacing Again
For a short while, almost the entire population of New Zealand can see clearly that we have no choice but to embark on a long term investment in climate adaptation, recovery and infrastructure future proofing – while the usual politics is suspended and the truth of the consequences of “kicking the can” down the road stares us all in the face.
The window is open and for a moment – maybe a few weeks – our minds surface and look around and we all know what needs to be done – no matter the cost.
Today we are likely to hear of more death – more tragedy and see scenes of communities in anguish and pain as the wider population mucks in to help.
It’s not the first time we have surfaced.
On March 19th 2019 fifty one innocent lives were gunned down and for a few weeks the whole nation was in shock and mourning and even NewsTalk ZB stopped attacking the poor, minorities, socialists, the Greens, Māori and the vulnerable for a short while.
During that short window of clarity and temporary unity – we banned semi automatic weapons in an almost unanimous, all of government law change – with only David Seymour objecting like the eternal arrogant prick he really is.
However soon that surfacing and clarity faded and we submerged again as Mike Hosking, Kate Hawkesby, Kerre Woodham and Heather DPA set about their attack dog scripts again – barking at their audiences – building up the hate – and the wider media returned to its usual anti-Ardern nit picking, clawing, scratching and biting.
In mid 2022, 30,000 people gave Jacinda Ardern a standing ovation at Harvard, she was applauded on popular American TV shows and President Joe Biden thanked her – for her leadership – because yet another gun massacre had taken place in the USA and New Zealand had managed to surface and ban these weapons.
Something New Zealand had been kicking down the road for far too long – but we surfaced and acted upon it and got it done.
When Covid struck in March 2020, we all surfaced again – this time with no vaccine and no defence other than lockdowns and once again NewsTalk ZB, Hosking et al – were silent or at least temporarily interested in saving their own arses, while New Zealand kicked Covid to touch.
New Zealand united against Covid ( apart from David Seymour ) for a short while – until it was all too much for Hosking and he flip flopped angrily – favouring wealth over health – as he thrashed about grabbing at unscientific Plan B straws and barking in fury – at his audiences once again, attacking Sir Ashley, attacking Jacinda, and basically frothing at the mouth like a four foot bag of angry bristling snot.
Yes – we have surfaced before for a while – but only for a while before the same old group drags this country back down under – and now we have every reason to believe the same submerging will happen again soon in 2023 concerning these horrific climate events.
The attack dogs will bark about the money.
Many will go back to wailing about the costs, in a cost of living crisis – and talk of doom and gloom will fill the air from selected economists like Brad from the flat and the National loving “independent” Cameron Budgie ( lol ), pecking at his bell.
The short term thinking of cutting down on Government Spending will come rushing back – as the Three Year political cycle gong rings out and radical climate adaptation and transformation will be nowhere to be seen by blind commentators – herded into a pen – and summarised by Bryce Edwards.
Yes we’ve seen it all before so today we know we have limited time before things fade and the attack dogs representing short term gain and “kicking the can down the road” set to work upon our population again.
However – what we cannot yet see – is the next once in one hundred year storm – the next record breaking cyclone – the next worse flood ever, the next life taking slip, drought or heatwave.
It’s taken quite a bit to bring us to the surface.
Know it all, old men raged in anger at Greta and yelled she should get back to school – shaking their fists safe and secure in the knowledge that there had always been climate change …
Yet nobody told them – climate change is speeding up rapidly so none of that nonsense they watched on youtube was relevant.
It’s like they are stuck on first base.
The most stupid have held back humanity – over on the far right – for far too long and now look at those houses under a sea of mud.
Same group missing their semi automatics – always knew it all – but have nothing to say today – apart from continuing to deny the facts before them.
Same group favoured by Hosking.
We’ve had several massive weather events in the past year and it’s only now that most of us are waking up ( I exclude the left ), and there’s every reason to think there will be more in 2023.
This is not going to just go away.
Today Nicola Willis will rush to the scene in Hawkes Bay to take get some PR shots of apples on the ground with her National Party candidates in the region.
Nicola will show how much she cares for growers and business owners by posting on her Facebook – as will most National MPs who have been invisible up until now.
This is the same Nicola Willis who sat through all the other weather events while spouting about how terrible government spending was – and how spending by Grant Robertson was sending us all backwards.
It’s easy to look back and not refer at all to the Covid spending like the wage subsidy and business resurgence support payments that nobody remembers when they are submerged long enough.
That had a modest effect on raising inflation 18 months later.
But now – nobody has any time for that.
Now Luxon has changed his tune and so Willis must also pivot and unsay everything she has been prattling on about for almost a year – with a “Media Free Pass”.
Angry anti-mandate protestors who were supported by NewsTalk ZB hosts like Kerre Woodham in 2021 and 2022 – and far right politicians like the arrogant prick and political opportunists like Winston – will fume with rage once again soon, but not today.
Today they will all be meek and mild and support the efforts to rescue people – comfort and support the displaced – and find the missing – and possibly recover bodies..we just don’t know.
For a short while, almost the entire population of New Zealand can see clearly that we have no choice but to embark on a long term investment in climate adaptation, recovery and infrastructure future proofing.
For a short while the usual “short term” politics is suspended and the truth of the consequences of “kicking the can” down the road stares us all in the face.
We really do need to invest and get on with it….and look – look at Central Government working with local government and Maori and everyone working together.
Democracy has not been destroyed as was feared and representation on councils is a side issue – as we all muck in get on with it.
Remember this clarity when Hosking starts up again soon – along with all the usual suspects in the media and on the right wing of politics, attacking long term efforts – screaming that there is no delivery and too much spending and it’s all too late anyway so give up.
We know what must be done and now we must act responsibly at last – and get on with it for the sake of future generations.
Time has run out.
No more Hosking – no more Hawkesby.
There’s no more time to follow wannabe National Party egos – nor the arrogant prick and his ridiculous twerking ideas.
The days of the self interested billionaire donors wagging the nation are coming to an end.
We can see clearly now.
Let’s get on with it.
